About Our Doctor:

Dr. Barbara Darnell graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. As a lifelong animal enthusiast, she would save tadpoles from puddles and lizards from lawnmowers during her childhood. Her first cat, Cindy, came into her life when she was in third grade, and since then, she has had many more. Her family consists of her amazing husband Brad, who loves pets, and their two children. And let's not overlook the furry members! Dr. Darnell has a diverse array of pets. She is currently looking after seven cats and two dogs, some of which are permanent fosters due to chronic illnesses.

Dr. Darnell operated Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital for two decades before shifting to a more personalized, slower-paced one-on-one personal approach to pet care that aligns with her growing passion for rescue work, veterinary dentistry, and treating cats with Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
